Gathering notification¶
A game participant or a moderator calls new players with the “Notify gathering” button on the gathering card. The bot posts a card with a link to the gathering in the notification channel, and those who are interested go there to sign up.
Participants¶
- Game participant — opens the “Notify gathering” window, writes a message if they want to, and sends the notification.
- Moderator — can send a notification for any gathering on their server. They also set the notification channel, the notification role, the restricted role and the pause between notifications.
- Other server members — see the notification in the notification channel and follow the link to the gathering to sign up.
- Bot — checks whether the notification can be sent, posts it and replies privately to whoever sent it.

- Open the window. On the gathering card, press the “Notify gathering” button in the bottom row. The bot opens the “Notify gathering” window.
- Add a message. The “Add a message” field is optional. You can write one line of up to 200 characters in it, for example when you plan to start.
- Submit the window. Only then does the bot check whether the notification can be sent. If not, it explains the reason privately, and nothing goes to the channel.
- The bot posts the notification. A card with a link to the gathering appears in the notification channel. If the moderators set a notification role, the bot mentions it above the card.
- The bot confirms. You see “Gathering notification sent.” privately. If the server has the event log turned on, the bot writes “📣 Gathering Notification” there.
What the notification card shows¶
The notification has four parts:
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Mention above the card | The notification role, if the moderators set one |
| Author | Your name and avatar |
| Title | How many places are free, the mode, the maximum number of players and the state, for example “+3 FFA6 Gathering”; links to the gathering card |
| Text | Your message as a quote, if you wrote one |
The card's color bar is yellow, like the gathering card's.
The title “+3 FFA6 Gathering” means: up to six players can play FFA, three have already signed up, three places are left. The bot counts free places up to six players in FFA, not up to the three needed to start. For Duel, the title looks like “+1 Duel2 Gathering”.
The bot shows the window and most replies in the language of your Discord client. It writes the reply “You are not allowed to perform this action.”, the card in the notification channel and the event log entry in the server's language. See Bot language.
Rules and exceptions¶
Only game participants and moderators send notifications¶
Game participants are the game creator, whom the bot signs up for the gathering right away, and everyone who signed up with the “Join | Leave” button. A moderator can call players to any gathering on their server. Anyone who isn't signed up for the gathering and isn't a moderator can't send a notification: after the window is submitted, the bot replies “You are not allowed to perform this action.” See Players, moderators and admins.
Notifications go only to the channel the moderators set¶
The “Notify gathering” button is on every gathering card. But if the moderators haven't set a notification channel or have turned notifications off, the bot replies “Gathering notifications are not configured.” The notification role is optional: without it, the card appears in the channel with no mention.
Depends on the server
The server's moderators set the notification channel, the notification role, the restricted role and the pause between notifications. See Setting up gathering notifications.
You can send notifications while the gathering has free places¶
When all six players in FFA or both in Duel have signed up, the bot replies “This gathering is already full.” If the game has already started or the gathering is gone, the reply is “This gathering has already ended.” See Creating a game and gathering players.
There is a pause between notifications of one game¶
After each notification, you can send the next one for this game only after a pause. The moderators set its length, from 3 to 60 min. If they haven't, the pause lasts 15 min. The pause is shared by all participants of the game and the moderators.
Until the pause is over, the bot replies “This game can notify again …” and shows how long to wait. The pause starts only after a notification is sent: a failed attempt doesn't start it.
The restricted role bars sending notifications¶
Moderators can set a role whose holders don't send notifications. The restriction applies to everyone with this role, moderators too. The bot replies to them “Users with the configured restricted role cannot send notifications.” Another participant of the game without this role can send the notification.
The bot mentions only the role the moderators set¶
Above the card, the bot mentions only the notification role, if the moderators set one. @ mentions in your message don't notify anyone.
A sent notification doesn't change¶
The bot posts the notification once and never updates it. The number in the title shows how many places were free at the moment of sending, even after the gathering has filled up. While the gathering lasts, the current lineup is on the gathering card.
When the game starts, and also when the gathering is cancelled or disappears, the bot removes the gathering card. The link in the notification's title then leads to a message that no longer exists.
What can go wrong¶
- The bot says “You are not allowed to perform this action.” You aren't signed up for the gathering and you aren't a moderator. Sign up with the “Join | Leave” button or ask someone in the gathering to send the notification.
- The bot says “Gathering notifications are not configured.” The server has no notification channel set, or notifications are turned off. Ask a moderator to set up notifications. See Setting up gathering notifications.
- The bot says “This game can notify again …”. The pause after the previous notification of this game isn't over yet. Another participant could have sent it. Wait the indicated time and try again.
- The bot says “This gathering is already full.” There are no free places. When all players press “Ready”, start the game with the “Start with Draft” or “Skip Draft & Start” button. See Starting a game.
- The bot says “This gathering has already ended.” The game has already started or the gathering is gone. Look for a started game in the game history channel, and create a new one on the game panel.
- The link in the notification doesn't open the gathering. The game has already started, or the gathering was cancelled or disappeared, and the gathering card is no longer in the game gathering channel. Look for a started game in the game history channel, and create a new one on the game panel.
- The bot says “Users with the configured restricted role cannot send notifications.” You have a role the moderators barred from sending notifications. Ask another participant of the game to send the notification.
- The bot reports an unavailable channel, an unavailable role or a missing permission. For example, “The configured notification channel is unavailable.” or “The configured role cannot be mentioned in the notification channel.” Tell a moderator: the
/guild notifications statuscommand shows them what exactly is wrong. - The bot says “Discord rejected the gathering notification.” Discord didn't accept the bot's message. The pause didn't start, so try again.
