Leaderboard

The leaderboard is a bot message that shows up to 15 players of the server with the highest rating in the current season, among those who already have a finished FFA game in it. A moderator puts it in a channel with /leaderboard show, and the bot updates it every hour.

What the leaderboard does

Players check the leaderboard to see who leads on the server in the current season, and a moderator puts it in a channel. The leaderboard does three things:

  • Shows the season's leaders. Players are ordered by rating, and next to each one you see wins, games and rank stars.
  • Updates itself. The bot updates the leaderboard once an hour, so a moderator doesn't need to put it up again.
  • Sums up the season. When a season is closed, a moderator can post its leaderboard as a separate message.

Each server has its own leaderboard: rating is calculated separately on each server. Anyone who can see the leaderboard channel sees the leaderboard.

What it includes

The leaderboard has two blocks: the header and the list of players.

Part What it means
“Топ игроков” The leaderboard's title
“Статистика” and the season name The season the rating is shown for
“с … по …” The season's period: from its start to the leaderboard's last update
“Нет данных о сыгранных играх” Shown instead of the period until an FFA game is finished on the server in the season
“Последнее обновление” How much time has passed since the leaderboard's last update
List of players Up to 15 rows, one per player; until anyone on the server has finished an FFA game this season — “Пока нет записей в лидерборде”

Above the list are the labels “Rating”, “Wins” and “Games”. Place and win percentage have no label. A player's row reads from left to right:

Column What it means
Place “1.”, “2.” and so on, from the highest rating
«Rating» The player's rating on the server in the current season
«Wins» Wins in this season's finished FFA games
«Games» This season's finished FFA games
Win percentage The share of wins among these games, rounded to a whole number, for example “50%”
Stars The player's rank: five stars, with gold ones or the player's personal icon for the rank, and the rest empty
Player The player's mention, for example @Orion

The leaderboard's text is the same on all servers and doesn't depend on the server's language. The header is in Russian, and the column labels are in English. See Bot language.

How it connects

  • Rating — the leaderboard shows the rating that finished FFA games change; see How rating is calculated.
  • Ranks — the stars next to a player show their rank; see Ranks and stars.
  • Seasons — the leaderboard shows the current season, and a moderator posts the past season's leaderboard; see Seasons.
  • Player stats — the stats card counts games differently from the leaderboard; see Player stats.
  • Leaderboard on the site — the “Leaderboard” block on the site's overview shows the same season rating, but for all players with a rated game, with no limit of 15 rows; this works on the server the CivBot site works with; see Games overview.

Rules

The leaderboard has up to 15 players who are still on the server

Players are ordered by rating in the current season, highest first. With equal ratings, the one who played more FFA games ranks higher. The bot skips players who left the server or haven't finished any FFA game in the season, numbers the places consecutively without them, and shows at most 15 rows. A player who comes back to the server appears in the leaderboard again after the next update.

A player gets into the leaderboard after their first finished FFA game

A player appears in the leaderboard once an FFA game they played in is finished on the server in the current season. Until there is such a game, the player isn't in the leaderboard, even if they signed up for gatherings or played only Duel. See Seasons.

The leaderboard counts only finished FFA games

The “Games” and “Wins” columns count finished FFA games of the current season on this server. Duel and scrapped games aren't included: they don't change rating. The stats card from /stats show counts differently: all finished games, Duel included, for the selected period. So games and wins in the leaderboard and on the card can differ. See Player stats.

The leaderboard updates once an hour

The bot updates the leaderboard every hour, not right after a game. The new rating after /game finish appears in the leaderboard at the next update. You see how much time has passed since the last update in the “Последнее обновление” line. The leaderboard also switches to a new season with the next update. See Finishing a game.

The bot updates only one leaderboard per server

Every hour, the bot updates the leaderboard in the leaderboard channel. If a moderator runs /leaderboard show in another channel, the leaderboard moves there and the bot deletes the previous one. If the leaderboard message is deleted, the bot posts a new leaderboard in the same channel at the next update. Past-season leaderboards aren't updated.

Only a moderator puts up the leaderboard

Only a moderator runs the /leaderboard show and /leaderboard season commands. That is the server owner, a member with the Discord “Administrator” permission, or a member with the server's moderator role. To everyone else the bot replies “You must be a moderator to use this command.”, and that reply disappears after 20 s. See Players, moderators and admins.

How a moderator manages the leaderboard

How to put up the leaderboard

A moderator puts up the leaderboard once, and then the bot updates it by itself.

  1. Pick a channel. Open the channel where players will look at the leaderboard. In the channel's settings, give the bot the “View Channel”, “Send Messages”, “Embed Links” and “Read Message History” permissions: without the last one, the leaderboard won't update. See Adding CivBot to a server.
  2. Run the command. Type /leaderboard show in this channel. To check: the “Топ игроков” leaderboard appears in the channel, and the bot replies “Leaderboard has been created!”. Only you see this reply.

To move the leaderboard, run /leaderboard show in another channel: the leaderboard appears there and disappears from the previous one.

How to show a past-season leaderboard

A moderator posts a closed season's leaderboard as a separate message that the bot doesn't update.

  1. Open the channel. Go to the channel where the leaderboard should appear.
  2. Run the command. Type /leaderboard season. The optional season_id option is the season number; without it, the bot takes the last closed season. /season list shows the season numbers. To check: the “Топ игроков” leaderboard of the past season appears in the channel, and the bot leaves no separate reply.

The past-season leaderboard looks the same, but it isn't updated and has no “Последнее обновление” line. Its “с … по …” period covers that whole season, from start to end. Players who left the server aren't in it either. This command doesn't change the leaderboard channel or the current season's leaderboard.

What can go wrong

  • You aren't in the leaderboard. The leaderboard has at most 15 players with the highest rating. While you have no finished FFA game on the server this season, you aren't in the leaderboard either. You see your rating on the stats card: run /stats show.
  • A player who played this season isn't in the leaderboard. They aren't among the 15 players with the highest rating or don't have a finished FFA game this season yet. Another reason is that the player left the server: the leaderboard shows only the server's members. If they come back, they appear in the leaderboard after the next update.
  • Games and wins don't match the stats card. The leaderboard counts only the season's finished FFA games. The stats card from /stats show counts all finished games, Duel included, for the selected period.
  • The leaderboard didn't change after a game. The leaderboard updates once an hour: wait for the next update. A Duel game doesn't change rating, so you don't see it in the leaderboard.
  • The leaderboard stopped updating. The “Последнее обновление” line shows a time more than an hour ago. The bot lost its permissions in the leaderboard channel, or the channel was deleted. Give the bot “View Channel”, “Send Messages”, “Embed Links” and “Read Message History” in this channel, or run /leaderboard show in another channel.
  • The bot replies that the command is for moderators only. To /leaderboard show or /leaderboard season, the bot replies “You must be a moderator to use this command.” Only a moderator puts up the leaderboard. Ask a moderator to put it up, or ask a server admin to give you the moderator role.
  • The bot couldn't put up the leaderboard. To /leaderboard show, the bot replies “Failed to create leaderboard. Please try again later.” The bot couldn't post the leaderboard in this channel. Give the bot “View Channel”, “Send Messages” and “Embed Links” in it and run the command again.
  • The bot found no past seasons. To /leaderboard season, the bot replies “Предыдущие сезоны не найдены”. There are no closed seasons yet, so there is no past-season leaderboard for now.
  • The bot replies “Error: Guild not configured”. The bot hasn't registered the server yet; wait a few minutes and run /leaderboard show again. See Adding CivBot to a server.
  • The past-season leaderboard says “Пока нет записей в лидерборде”. No FFA game was finished on the server in that season, or all the players who played them have already left the server.
