Games overview

The games overview is the “Overview” page on the CivBot site, which opens right after you sign in. It shows your latest games, the server's current games, recent results, your week, the month's totals and the season leaderboard.

What the overview is for

The overview shows the games of the server the site works with: who's playing now, how the latest games ended, which games you took part in and how you're doing in the season. All blocks belong to one server; you can't choose or switch the server on the site.

From the overview, each game opens on its own page: Game page. The bot creates, starts and cancels games. On the game page, the players of that game can finish it, attach a save and join it.

Only someone who has signed in with Discord can see the overview; without signing in, the site shows the home page with the “Sign in with Discord” button. If a guest opens a link to a game, a player profile or the games list, the site asks them to sign in right away. See Sign-in and privacy.

The top bar has the items “Overview”, “Games” and “Save inspector”, plus the search field “Search players or a game number…”: press the “/” key, or on a phone tap the “Search” icon. The results have the groups “Game” and “Players”; picking a result opens the game or the player profile. On a phone, the menu items are hidden under the button at the top left. See Games on the site.

What it includes

On a wide screen, the last three blocks stand in a right-hand column; on a narrower one, they go below the others.

Part What it means
Heading “Your games. Your community.” The page intro with the “Inspect save” button, which opens the save inspector; the hint next to the heading: “Shared game history, with your matches one click away.”
“My recent games” Up to 3 of your newest games
“Games in progress” The server's games that started in the last 48 hours and are still going; 5 of them are shown
“Recent results” Up to 10 of the server's latest finished and scrapped games, under day headings
“Your week” Your latest rated game, plus your games and wins for the week
“This month” The server's figures for the month and the month's events
“Leaderboard” The season's players by rating

My recent games

The “My recent games” block, captioned “Games you played in”, shows up to 3 games where you had a slot. Games in any state appear here: “In progress”, “No result”, “Finished” and “Scrap”. The newest games come first. The “View all my games →” link opens the “Games” page with the “My games” switch on. If you have no such games, the block says “No games yet” and “Games you play appear here.”

Game card

Each game in the “My recent games” block is its own card, and the whole card opens the game page:

Card part What it shows
Title Game number, such as “Game #248”
State “In progress”, “No result”, “Finished · Science” or “Scrap”, with a state icon
Format Game mode and type, such as “FFA · Patch”
Date The day the game was finished or scrapped, or, for a game that's still going, the day it started
Players Avatars of all players in slot order and a caption, such as “6 players”
“YOU” tag Sits above your avatar; the avatar itself has an outline
Card bottom On the left, a link to the save: “Attach save” or, when there's already a save, “Save · turn 120”; on the right, “View game”

The save link leads to the save section of the game page. See Game saves on the site.

Your avatar is your Discord picture, and other players' avatars are their Discord pictures as the bot last saw them; without a picture, the default Discord avatar appears. If a player has already picked a nation, that nation's icon sits in the bottom left corner of their avatar. The avatar of a player the site knows opens a short player card with a “View profile” button (for you, “View your profile”); the avatar of any other player shows only their name. See Player profile.

The mode on a card is FFA, Duel or Teams; Teams is a team game that turns up only among old games. The type is Vanilla, Patch, KEK or LEK. The site shows the date in your device's time zone.

Games in progress

The “Games in progress” block is the same for everyone who is signed in: it holds the games of all the server's players, not just yours. The number in the heading shows how many games are going, for example “Games in progress · 3”; the newest are on top. The block shows the first 5 games, and a line like “3 more in progress” sums up the rest.

A game row contains:

  • the players' avatars and the “In progress” state with an hourglass icon;
  • the game format, which opens the game page;
  • under the format, a line like “#248 · turn 120 · started 2 hours ago”: the turn appears there only when a save is attached to the game;
  • a “Discord” link that opens the game thread in a new tab;
  • a save mark: hovering opens the hint “Save attached · turn 120” or “No save attached”.

The whole row opens the game page. Only a member of the server the site works with can see the game thread. If no game is going, the block says “No games in progress right now.”

Recent results

The “Recent results” block shows up to 10 of the server's games that were finished or scrapped most recently. It is also the same for everyone who is signed in. Games are grouped under day headings by your device's time zone: “Today”, “Yesterday” or a date. The “All games →” link opens the “Games” page.

Each row is one game, and the whole row opens the game page. A row shows:

  • the winner's avatar and name, and under it a line like “#246 · FFA · Patch · 312 turns”; hovering over the winner's name opens a short player card;
  • separately, the win type with an icon, for example “Science”;
  • your rating change in this game, for example “YOU ↑ 68”; the mark appears only when your rating changed in this game;
  • the save mark.
What's in the row What it means
The winner's name and the win type, such as “Science” The game is finished: a winner and a win type
The winner's name, and the win type is empty The game is finished, but no win type was recorded
“Unknown player” instead of a name The game is finished, but the site doesn't know the winner's name
“No winner” and “Scrap” in the victory column The game was scrapped after the start
“No winner” in a finished game No winner is marked in an old game

The win types are the same five as in the bot: “Science”, “Culture”, “Diplomacy”, “Domination” and “Recognition”. The site takes player names from Discord as the bot last saw them. If there are no finished games yet, the block says “No finished games yet.”

Your week

The “Your week” block is captioned with the days of the week (the last 7 days up to today) and the season name, for example “4 – 10 Oct”, followed by a dot and the season name; while no season is on, only the days are shown. The week is counted in your device's time zone. The block has:

  • Last game. The nation's emblem, the rating change (“+68”, “−5” or “±0”), the caption “LAST GAME” and the line “Game #248 · Science · 1500 → 1568”. This is your last rated game of the season.
  • Week line. “You played 3 of 14 this week · 2 wins”: how many finished games you played this week, how many there were on the server and how many of them you won. If you didn't play, the line says “No games this week”.
  • Result bars. Up to 10 of your latest finished games, oldest on the left: a green bar is a win, a gray one is any other result. A bar opens the game, and its hint gives the game number, the day, “Win” or “Loss”, and the rating change.
  • Season summary. A line like “5 games · 2 wins · #3 in the leaderboard”; there's no place if you aren't in the leaderboard.

A newcomer sees “Play your first game to see your week here.” If you have no rated game in the season, “No rated games this season yet.” takes the place of the last game, and the season summary is hidden. If the week can't be counted, the block says “Your week is not available right now.”

This month

The “This month” block is captioned with the month name, for example “October”. It shows the server's figures, not yours, from the start of the month to today (in your device's time zone):

  • “GAMES”. How many finished games ended this month;
  • “TURNS”. How many turns these games had in total;
  • “PLAYERS”. How many different players played in them.

A comparison tag, such as “+9 vs September”, shows the difference in the number of games against the same days of the previous month: green means more, red means fewer, gray means the same. Month events may follow below: “Orion won for the first time”, “New face · Vega played a first game” and the biggest win over stronger players, with its rating gain. An event is shown only when it's found. If there are no finished games this month yet, the block says “No finished games this month yet.”, and if the figures are unavailable, “This month is not available right now.”

Leaderboard

The “Leaderboard” block is captioned with the season and the number of players. It lists all players with a rated game in the current season, from the highest rating. Equal ratings share a place. A row has the place (a medal for the top ones), an avatar with the nation the player played most often in the season, the name, which leads to the player profile, and the rating. Your row is highlighted with the “YOU” tag, and it also appears below the list.

On a wide screen, the list scrolls inside the block. On a phone, the first 10 players are shown, and the “Show all 294” button expands the rest. If the season has no rated games, the block says “No rated games this season yet.”, and if the leaderboard is unavailable, “The leaderboard is not available right now.” For the rating itself, see Leaderboard and Seasons.

Where the blocks lead

  • “Games” in the top bar. The page with all the server's games and a search by players; see Games on the site.
  • “View all my games →” and “All games →”. The same “Games” page: with the first link, it opens with the “My games” switch on.
  • The game card, the current game row and the result row. They open the game page; see Game page.
  • The save link on a card. It opens the save section of the game page.
  • A player's avatar or name. They open the short player card, and from it the Player profile.
  • “Inspect save”. It opens the Save inspector.

How it connects

  • Game — the overview shows games that have already started, with a number, mode and type; see Game.
  • Game thread — the “Discord” link in the “Games in progress” block opens the game thread; see Game thread.
  • Finishing a game — the result appears on the site after the /game finish command or after the game is finished on the site; see Finishing a game and Finishing a game on the site.
  • Scrapping a game — when a game participant or a moderator presses “Cancel game” in the game thread, the game gets the “Scrap” state; see Scrapping a game.
  • Save inspector — the “Inspect save” button opens it from the overview; see Save inspector.
  • Rating — “Your week” and “Leaderboard” take the rating from the current season; see How rating is calculated.

Game states on the site

The site shows a game in one of four states. On a game card, the state's icon comes before its name: an hourglass, a dashed circle, a check mark (or an icon for the victory type, such as a flask for a scientific one) or a crossed-out circle.

State What it means Who sets it
“In progress” The game started less than 48 hours ago and has no result yet A game participant or a moderator, when they start the game
“No result” More than 48 hours have passed since the start, and the game was neither finished nor scrapped The site, as soon as 48 hours pass since the start
“Finished · …” The game is finished with a winner; after the state name comes the win type, or just “Finished” if it isn't recorded A game participant or a moderator with the /game finish command; a player of the game also with the “Finish the game” button on the site
“Scrap” The game was cancelled after the start, and there is no winner A game participant or a moderator, with the “Cancel game” button in the game thread

The states “In progress”, “Finished” and “Scrap” are the same as in the bot. The “No result” state exists only on the site: in the bot, such a game is still “In progress”.

stateDiagram-v2

    [*] --> ongoing: a participant or a moderator starts the game
    ongoing --> no_result: 48 hours pass since the start
    ongoing --> finished: a participant or a moderator runs /game finish, a player of the game finishes the game on the site

The diagram doesn't show the gathering, because the site doesn't show it. A game appears in the overview only after it starts.

Rules

The overview shows only games that have already started

A game gets onto the site when it starts and receives its number. The site doesn't show the gathering, and a cancelled gathering never appears there. See Starting a game.

48 hours after the start, an unfinished game becomes “No result”

A game that was neither finished nor scrapped within 48 hours of the start disappears from the “Games in progress” block, and its card gets the “No result” state. It isn't among the “Recent results”, because those hold only finished and scrapped games. In the bot, it stays “In progress”. A player of the game can still finish it after that; as soon as the game is finished or scrapped, the site shows its result. See Finishing a game.

The overview shows the games of one server

All blocks, including the week, the month and the leaderboard, show the server the site works with. Games of other servers don't get here, even if you played there. “My recent games” holds the games where the Discord account you signed in with had a slot.

Only three parts of the overview are personal

Only “My recent games”, “Your week” and the “YOU” tags are yours. The other blocks are the same for everyone who is signed in. A visitor the bot doesn't know yet sees all the blocks, but “My recent games” is empty, “Your week” says “Play your first game to see your week here.”, and there's no “YOU” row in the leaderboard.

Days, the week and the month are counted in your device's time zone

The site sets the day headings in “Recent results”, the week and the month by the time zone the page is opened in.

The overview doesn't refresh on its own

The site loads the data when you open the overview. To see a new game or a fresh result, reload the page. The time “started 2 hours ago” is counted from the moment of loading.

What can go wrong

  • The “My recent games” block is empty, though you've played. The block shows only games that have already started, and only on the server the site works with. Check that you signed in with the same Discord account you played with.
  • The game is still going, but the card says “No result”. That's how the site marks every game that wasn't finished or scrapped within 48 hours of the start, even if people are still playing it. When you finish playing, finish the game with the /game finish command in the game thread or with the “Finish the game” button on the game page: after you reload the page, the site shows the result. See Finishing a game.
  • You don't see a new game or a fresh result. The overview doesn't refresh on its own: reload the page. A game appears only after it starts, not during the gathering.
  • The site says it couldn't load the games. Instead of “Games in progress” and “Recent results” you see “Could not load games.”, and the “My recent games” block and the right column are hidden. Press “Try again” or reload the page a little later.
  • One block says it couldn't be shown. The site writes “This section could not be shown.”, and the rest of the page works. Reload the page.
  • There's no “Discord” link next to a game. No thread is recorded for this game. If the link is there but the thread doesn't open, you're not a member of the server the site works with.
  • Your rating is missing from the leaderboard or the week. You don't have a rated game in the current season yet, or no season is on: the blocks say “No rated games this season yet.”
  • You played on another server, but those games aren't in the overview. The site works with one server and doesn't show games of other servers.
