Games on the site¶
The “Games” page on the CivBot site shows all of the server's games, newest first, and lets you find games that selected players played together. Separately, every page after sign-in has a search in the top bar: it finds players and games by number.

What the page is for¶
The page gathers the games of the server the site works with: games of other servers aren't in the list. It only shows games; you create and start them in the bot. The players of a game (those with a seat in it) can also finish the game, pick a nation or attach a save on the game page; a moderator without a seat only views. See Game page and Finishing a game on the site.
Only someone who has signed in with Discord can see the page. A guest who opens the games list goes straight to signing in with Discord. See Sign-in and privacy.
Three paths lead to the page:
- The “Games” item in the top bar, and on a phone in the menu that the button at the top left opens; from a game page, it opens a list with only your games;
- The “View all my games” link in the “My recent games” block on the overview: the list immediately shows only games you took part in;
- The “All games” link in the “Recent results” block on the overview: a list with no players picked.
More about the overview: Games overview.
The list has games in the states “In progress”, “No result”, “Finished” and “Scrap”. Gatherings that haven't become games yet aren't in it. The order is by finish date, or by start date if the game isn't finished; the newest are on top.
Picking players¶
Under the “Games” heading is a caption that explains the current selection:
| Selection | Caption |
|---|---|
| Nobody | “Every game, newest first. Pick players to see the games they played together.” |
| One other player | “Games Orion played.” |
| Several players | “Games Orion, Vega and you played together.” |
| Only you | “Games you played.” |
The selected players work as an “all together” condition: the list keeps only games where each of them had a seat. You can select up to eight players, because that's how many seats a game has; you count too.
Searching for a player in the field¶
- Start typing a name. In the “Add a player…” field, type part of a name. The search runs after a short pause in typing. One or two characters match the start of a name, and text of three or more characters matches anywhere in the name. Case doesn't matter.
- Pick a player from the list. Suggestions appear in the “Players” group, no more than eight, and players already selected aren't among them. An exact name match comes first, then the players you've played the most finished games with, then the rest by name.
- Check the chip. The selected player appears as a chip, the field clears, and you can add the next one. The “Clear search” button erases the typed text.
You can search for players of this server who have a Discord account and played on it or have a rating on it. If nobody is found, the field says “Try another name.”, and if the search failed, “Couldn’t load players.”
Chips and the “My games” switch¶
Each selected player is a separate chip, in the order they were picked. The chip with your name is labeled “You”. The “Remove Orion” button on a chip takes the player out of the selection.
The “My games” switch does the same as the “You” chip: when pressed, it shows a check mark and adds you to the selection, and pressing it again removes you. When eight other players are selected and you aren't among them, the switch is disabled. If the site doesn't know you as a player, there's no switch.
The selection is saved in the page address, so you can send the link to a list with selected players, and the browser's Back and Forward buttons bring back earlier selections. A guest who gets such a link signs in with Discord first, and the selection is lost after sign-in.
Load more games¶
The page shows 20 games at a time. Under the list there's a summary “Showing 20 of 134 games” and the “Load more games” button; while games are loading, the button is disabled. When everything is loaded, a line “All 134 games” replaces the button. The summary takes the selection into account.
Game row¶
Each game in the list is one row, and the whole row leads to the game page. See Game page.
| Part | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Players | A stack of avatars, up to six, then a “+N” circle; players you selected are highlighted |
| Format | Game mode and type, such as “FFA · Patch”, or a dash when they're unknown |
| Caption | “#248 · finished 24 Oct”, “#248 · started 24 Oct” or “#248 · scrapped 24 Oct” |
| Result | The winner and the win type, “You won”, “No winner” or a state mark |
| Rating | Your rating change in this game; shown only when it isn't zero |
| Save | A mark showing whether a save is attached to the game on the site |
| Arrow | Shows that the row opens |
A game in progress has the “In progress” mark. If it has been going for more than 48 hours since the start, the mark changes to “No result”. A scrapped game has the “Scrap” mark. If the win type of a finished game is unknown, a dash stands in its place.
The save mark is a file icon: with a check mark when a save is attached, and pale and empty when it isn't. Hovering, focusing or tapping opens the hint “Save attached · turn 165” or “No save attached”. Pressing the mark doesn't open the game. For game saves, see Game saves on the site.
Hovering over, focusing or tapping an avatar opens the player card; pressing the avatar doesn't open the game. For the player, see Player profile.
On a phone¶
On a screen narrower than 1,024 pixels, a row has two layers. At the top are a smaller avatar stack and the result on the right, without the winner's avatar, and the win type is shown only as an icon. At the bottom is one line “FFA · Patch · #248 · 24 Oct” with the rating change, the save mark and the arrow.
On a narrow screen, such as a phone, the selection panel folds into a column: first the field, then “My games”, then the chips.
Top bar search¶
The “Search players or a game number…” field sits in the top bar of every page of the site after sign-in. Press the “/” key outside an input field to jump to the field; it works in any keyboard layout. On a phone, the search opens with the “Search” button in the top bar.
Results come in two groups:
- “Game” — if you typed a game number, a row “Game 248” appears with the line “FFA · Patch · Finished 24 Oct” (for a game from a previous year, the year is added). A game that isn't finished shows its state: “In progress”, “No result” or “Scrap”. Picking the row opens the game page. See Game page.
- “Players” — the server's players by name; your row has the “You” tag. Picking a player opens their profile. See Player profile.
Enter opens the page the list points to, and the up and down arrows move through the rows. The Escape key closes the list; on a phone, the “Close search” button closes the field. The “Clear search” button erases the text.
If nothing is found, the list says “No players or game found.” and “Try another name or a game number.” When the search fails, it says “Couldn’t load results.”
The top bar search leads to one player or one game. To see games that several players played together, use the “Add a player…” field on the “Games” page.
The same in Discord¶
The /search games_by_players command in Discord also finds games where all the named players played together. Anyone can run it. It remains a separate path: on the site, the list and the player selection show the same shared games. See Bot commands.
What can go wrong¶
- Instead of the list, the Discord sign-in opens. The “Games” page is available only after sign-in. Sign in, and the site returns you to the list; you'll have to pick the players again.
- The list says “Couldn’t load games.” The first load failed. Press “Retry”.
- A strip above the list says “Couldn’t update results. Showing previous results.” The new selection failed to load, and the page kept the previous rows. Change the selection again or reload the page.
- The list is empty. With no selection, the page says “No games to show yet.”; for you alone, “You have no games yet.”; for selected players, “No games with Orion and you.” These players haven't played together yet: remove someone from the chips.
- You can't add more players. The selection already has eight players (including you, if you're selected), so the field no longer searches. Remove someone with the “Remove …” button on a chip.
- The game isn't in the list. A gathering that hasn't started isn't a game, so it isn't in the list. Look for its card in the game gathering channel in Discord. See Creating a game and gathering players.
