Seasons¶
A season is a period over which rating is kept. Every player starts a new season with a rating of 1,000, and games from past seasons stay in the game history channel and in the player's stats.
What a season does¶
A season splits rating into periods. These things depend on it:
- Rating starts over. At the start of a season, every player has a rating of 1,000 and rank 2, which is two stars. After that, finished FFA games change rating.
- The leaderboard shows the current season. It shows the server's best players in this season and the season's name.
- Past results are kept. The rating a player ended a season with belongs to that season and no longer changes.
What it includes¶
| Part | What it means |
|---|---|
| Name | For example, “Season 1 2026”; shown in the leaderboard and on the player stats card |
| Dates | The start and end of the season; the current season has no end yet |
| Rating | Separate for each player on each server; 1,000 at the start of a season |
| Games | Games that started while the season was running |
| Leaderboard | The server's best players by rating in this season |
Season name¶
A season is usually named after the half-year it started in. The name is in English on servers in any language.
| Season start | Name |
|---|---|
| January–June | “Season 1 YYYY”, where YYYY is the year |
| July–December | “Season 2 YYYY”, where YYYY is the year |
You see the current season's name in two places in Discord:
- in the leaderboard, in the “Статистика” line under the “Топ игроков” title;
- on the player stats card for the “Season” period, next to the 📅 icon.
On the server the CivBot site works with, the site shows the season's name too: in the “Leaderboard” card on the overview (“Season 1 · 2026 · 294 players”) and in the player profile. See Player profile.
Under the name in the leaderboard is the period “с … по …”. For the current season, it is the time from its start to the leaderboard's last update, not the end of the season.
The 2025 seasons were named after the time of year, from “Winter 2025” to “Autumn 2025”. The first season named after a half-year, “Season 1 2026”, started on 2026-01-01.
How it connects¶
- Rating — is calculated separately in each season and starts at 1,000; see How rating is calculated.
- Ranks — a player starts a new season at rank 2, which is two stars; see Ranks and stars.
- Leaderboard — shows the current season and updates every hour; see Leaderboard.
- Player stats — the “Season” period counts the current season's games, and “Global” counts finished games on the server for all time; see Player stats.
- Game — belongs to the season that is active when it starts; see Game.
Season states¶
A season is either current or past.
| State | What it means | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Current | New games belong to it, and finished FFA games change rating | The leaderboard, the player stats card for the “Season” period |
| Past | The season has ended, and players' ratings in it no longer change | The past-season leaderboard that a moderator posts, and the player profile on the site |
What changes with a new season¶
The bot doesn't send a separate announcement about a new season. When a season starts, this changes:
| Part | In the new season |
|---|---|
| Rating and rank | Start at 1,000 and rank 2 on each server |
| Leaderboard | Empty at first; players appear in it after finished FFA games |
| The “Season” period on the stats card | Counts only games that started in the new season |
| Past-season rating | Stays with the past season and no longer changes |
| Games, their threads and results | Stay unchanged |
| Game numbers | Numbering continues instead of starting from 1 |
| The “Global”, “Month” and “Week” periods on the stats card | Count games regardless of seasons |
| The leaderboard on the site (the server the site works with) | Empty at first: “No rated games this season yet.” |
Past-season leaderboard¶
Only a moderator posts the past-season leaderboard. They run /leaderboard season in the channel they want, and the bot posts the leaderboard there. In the season_id option, enter the season number that /season list shows. If you leave the option empty, the bot takes the last finished season.
The past-season leaderboard looks the same as the leaderboard, but it isn't updated and has no “Последнее обновление” line. It has up to 15 players with the highest rating among those who had at least one finished FFA game in that season and are still on the server.
You can't choose a past season on the player stats card in Discord. To see a past-season leaderboard, ask a moderator of your server. See Leaderboard.
On the server the CivBot site works with, you see past seasons in the player profile: in the “Season” period picker you can choose a season, and the current one is marked with the word “current”. See Player profile.
Rules¶
There is one season for all servers¶
A new season starts at the same time on all servers where CivBot works. The season's name and dates are the same everywhere too. There is no separate season for a single server.
Only the bot owner starts and closes a season¶
Only the bot owner starts and closes a season (“bot owner” is a role on the page Players, moderators and admins), because one season covers all servers. A server moderator doesn't change the season but can see it:
/season listshows up to 10 most recent seasons: “Active” or “Closed”, the name, the season number, and the start and end dates./season infoshows the current season: “Status”, “Started”, “Duration” in days, and the season number. If there is no current season, the bot writes “No active season”.
Only you see both replies. You need the season number from these replies for the /leaderboard season command: enter it in the season_id option.
Rating is separate for each server and season¶
A player's rating is tied to a server and a season. Someone who plays on two servers has two independent ratings. A game on one server doesn't change rating on another. See How rating is calculated.
Every player starts a season with a rating of 1,000¶
At the start of a season, every player's rating is 1,000 and rank is 2. While a player has no finished FFA games in this season, the stats card for the “Season” period shows “Rank 2 (1000)”. See Ranks and stars.
A game belongs to the season active when it starts¶
A game gets its season together with its number when it starts. When the gathering opened doesn't matter. See Starting a game.
What can go wrong¶
- Your rating is 1,000 again. A new season has started, and rating is calculated from scratch. Your past-season rating is kept. If you were among the server's 15 players with the highest rating in that season, ask a moderator to post the past-season leaderboard with
/leaderboard season. On the server the site works with, you see your rating for past seasons in the player profile. - The leaderboard still shows the past season. The leaderboard updates every hour and switches to the new season with the next update. You see when it was last updated in the “Последнее обновление” line.
- The leaderboard is empty. No FFA game has been finished on the server in the new season yet. Then the leaderboard says “Нет данных о сыгранных играх” and “Пока нет записей в лидерборде”. Players appear in it after finished FFA games and the leaderboard's next update.
- The stats card shows fewer games than you played. The “Season” period counts only games that started in the current season. The “Global” period shows all your finished games on this server.
- Nation stats for the season don't match the rating season. The
/nations statscommand withperiod:seasonshows the last 90 days, not the current season. See Nation stats and game times.
